"Celebrate 2008"
Our biennial Quilt Spectacular will be at the Whitehall Community
Park on March 28-30, 2008. The show will feature a large display of
traditional and contemporary quilts, wall hangings, and quilted items.
Guests will also enjoy vendors, special exhibits, free demonstrations,
a little quilts and accessories silent auction, quilt appraisals,

2008 Opportunity Quilt:
We have a beautiful queen-sized quilt (85” x 103”), titled “Tulip
Garden,” that will be raffled off on the last day of the show. In
keeping with our 30’s theme, the fabrics are 30’s reproductions,
the border is scalloped and the pattern (from the book “Feed Sack
Quilts”) is from the 30’s. While at the show, get a close-up of
the magnificent custom quilting (by Jane Williams). You need not
be present to win, but you do need to buy a ticket! Tickets will
be available at the show for purchase. A portion of the proceeds
will be donated to the Ohio Historical Society for quilt
acquisition, preservation and restoration.
Special Exhibit: As our guild celebrates its 30th
anniversary, we are celebrating those who began the guild all
those years ago. Three of our founding members, Carol Cleaves,
Irene Goodrich and Betty Nye, will have a special display of their
quilting from the past 30 years. Stop in this special exhibit and
see where quilting was, and where it is today! |

Kids’ Activities:
Activities for children will be available to help keep our youngest
visitors entertained while they wander with their guardian through the
show. Visit our table in the lobby before you enter the show to get in
on the fun!
Awards: Ribbons will be awarded in various
categories by popular vote of our attendees. Ribbons will be awarded
on Sunday, and displayed on the winning quilts. Please attend on
Friday or Saturday if you wish to cast your ballot for your favorites,
and again on Sunday to see the winners!
Kid Quilts Display: This special display will highlight
our guild’s involvement in making these charity quilts for young
children and babies in need of extra love and care, and show how fun
and happy this work can be for the quilter as well as the recipients.
Appraisals:
Wondering if you should have your quilt appraised, whether it's
grandmother's heirloom, a fabulous garage sale find, or your own
contemporary masterpiece? An appraisal is a written statement of
value and includes pattern name, circa data, brief description,
information about the quilt's "provenance" or history, and the
estimated value based on additional research and the appraiser's
experience. For newly made quilts, important information includes
design source, cost of fabrics and materials, and any awards won.
The appraisal takes about 30 minutes an costs $35 per quilt.
Quilts should be appraised for insurance value in case of loss,
theft or damage. Many national quilt shows require appraisals
before exhibiting; and if the quilt is lost in shipping you'll be
insured for the cost of materials only, not the art value. An
appraisal can also establish the "fair market" value if you wish
to sell the quilt or donate it to a museum or historical society.
Appraisals are completed to settle family estates, to leave
written proof for your family of the true worth of your art form,
and sometimes simply to satisfy your curiosity about a wonderful
garage sale find!
To schedule an appointment for an appraisal during the show,
contact Amy Korn at (614) 891-8008 or by e-mail at;

Boutique: Our boutique is like a
quilter's flea market and features new and gently-used quality,
low-cost items such as patterns, books, magazines, fabric,
collectibles, quilt blocks, unfinished quilt tops, quilting tools and
notions, and more.
Demonstrations: Learn various tips and
techniques to enhance your quilting. There is something for every
skill level, whether you are just beginning to quilt or are
experienced.
